QUICK LINKS: About TAC Announcements Updated 01/24/09 Mailing List Calendar Observing Intents Reports Sites Beginners Home COMMANDS: Log In Configure Web-page . Subscribe to mailing list. Search: About WHAT IS TAC? TAC is a service for amateur astronomers in the San Francisco bay area. TAC is unique. It is not a traditional astronomy club. It has no dues, officers, by-laws, or other official trappings. . . It is an informal network of those who think they might be, or already are, interested in learning from or joining experienced observers to enjoy each other’s knowledge of the sky/equipment and comraderie. TAC’s goal is to bring together active observational amateur astronomers, bay area wide, via the Internet where ideas can more easily be exchanged and new friendships made. TAC is NOT an organization and does not compete with traditional astronomy clubs. TAC’s goals include announcing events offered by bay area astronomy clubs to help increase their memberships and public visibility. There are many great programs offered by existing membership-fee based clubs that TAC will not offer. We encourage you to contact one or more of the many other fine clubs available to serve your needs in ways TAC does not. TAC IN OTHER AREAS TAC-SAC : greater Sacramento area. TAC-Shasta : California’s far northern areas. TAC-South : generally San Diego to Orange County . HOW CAN WE HELP EACH OTHER? Equipment... are you interested in purchasing? Come out and see a wide selection of great equipment in use and speak with the owners before making your purchase. You will find equipment ranging from low cost binoculars to the most sophisticated high-tech scopes and large "light buckets." Are you inexperienced but think you may like amateur observational astronomy? Your participation is most welcome. You need not have any knowledge of the sky or equipment. Beginners are encouraged to come out and learn the sky and view its wonders with more experienced observers. Are you experienced? Are you an active dark sky observer (that is, do you get out "away" from the city lights in your back-yard)? Come join us. We are a group of active observers... not a meeting hall club. Come get together with others who enjoy being out doing what observational amateur astronomers enjoy most.... come observe with us! If you have... a special talent, contacts or ideas that could benefit local amateur astronomy, you will find people in TAC with the willingness to explore new possibilities, e-mail us here . WHY DID WE FORM TAC? TAC had been a vague concept since 1993. Late in 1996, TAC was established to: Facilitate active observational amateur astronomers observing together. Meet others "in the field" with similar interests and dedication. Provide newcomers access to enthusiastic amateurs’ equipment and experience. Do all of the above in dark sky settings where learning and enjoyment are maximized. Many "TACos" are also active members of more traditional astronomy clubs in the bay area. We support and encourage you to utilize the outstanding educational and observing resources offered by the other more formal local clubs. If you are interested in astrophotography or ccd-imaging, please try TAC-Imaging . But...If observing is your top priority, TAC wants you! Come join us...
